On Friday 2 October, the new volunteers of\u00a0the Association pro Terra Sancta, met for the first time with father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Custos of the Holy Land<\/strong> and president of the Association. The volunteers told him about themselves and about the job they are here for.<\/p>\n

There are six new volunteers<\/strong>: most of them have been in the Holy Land for a very short time and someone arrived just the day before the meeting. They are here for a job shadowing work to support the various activities<\/strong> of the Association pro Terra Sancta in Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Among them there are those who will be responsible for communication, project reporting and translations<\/strong>, someone will help with the fundraising<\/strong> and others will be more directly involved in projects<\/strong>; for example, two of them will teach Italian language to the Franciscan novices and to local young people.<\/p>\n

After a short introductory round during which everyone told\u00a0something about himself, the Custos of the Holy Land presented the local reality<\/strong>.The area in which the Custody of the Holy land is present is really vast<\/strong> and includes, besides Israel\u00a0and Palestinian Territories, also Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Rhodes and Cyprus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat struck me about fr. Pizzaballa\u201d said one of them, \u201cis that, although he has many responsibilities, he was so calm and available<\/strong> with us\u201d. Another volunteer approved: \u201cA really affable and simple person\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting the Custos of the Holy Land\u00a0said: \u201cThank you for your availability and for your work with us<\/strong>\u201d. \u201cWe will surely meet next month\u201d, he added, \u201cmaybe we could have lunch together\u2026 Obviously the Menu has to be Italian!\u201d<\/p>\n
