{"id":20640,"date":"2012-05-17T08:00:34","date_gmt":"2012-05-17T07:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.proterrasancta.org\/?p=20640"},"modified":"2021-12-29T10:42:16","modified_gmt":"2021-12-29T09:42:16","slug":"accommodations-for-bethlehems-christians-an-aid-to-the-christian-community-of-the-city-of-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/preprod.proterrasancta.org\/en\/accommodations-for-bethlehems-christians-an-aid-to-the-christian-community-of-the-city-of-jesus\/","title":{"rendered":"Accommodations for Bethlehem&#8217;s Christians: an aid to the Christian community of the city of Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"bethlehem\" src=\"https:\/\/www.proterrasancta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/CHI_9744piccola-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Christian community \" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/em>&#8220;And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for o&#8221;ut of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.&#8221; (Mt. 2,6). <\/em>If the place of Jesus birth was an essentially Christian city since 1948, beginning from today Bethlehem is undergoing a significant change because of the immigration of many Muslims from the city of Hebron towards the Bethlehem&#8217;s refugee camps.\u00a0<strong>Today only 12.000 Christians live in Bethlehem compared to the 35.000 Muslims.<\/strong> The last century witnessed <strong>a slow but constant migration of Christian community from Bethlehem<\/strong> to Europe and America, bringing the most of the houses to be acquired by the new Muslim citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, from several years the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land already care to find a house for the Christian community of Bethlehem, thanks to ATS pro Terra Sancta&#8217;s support, within the project named &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jerusalemstonesofmemory.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stones of Memory<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;.\u00a0In particular, the Custody of the Holy Land directly bought six houses and 27 others were bought through the Societ\u00e0 Antoniana of Bethlehem, a social body linked to Bethlehem&#8217;s Franciscan Parish.<\/p>\n<p>However, all of this is not sufficient. There are still too many Christians who decide to leave their homeland, especially young people who can&#8217;t see any future in their city. &#8220;Stones of Memory&#8221; project also plans to<strong> find new job opportunities for the local population<\/strong>, particularly for the unemployed, as well as vocational and human training of the young with training courses and partnerships with qualified and experienced staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for o&#8221;ut of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.&#8221; (Mt. 2,6).
