\u201c<\/em>Remembering the Good Friday Collection means recalling a commitment that dates back to Apostolic times. St Paul testifies to it in his Letter to the Christians of Galatia: \u2018they would have us remember the poor, which very thing I was eager to do\u2019 (2:10). And he reasserted this to the brethren of Corinth (1 Co 16; 2 Co 8-9) and of Rome: \u2018However, I am going [\u2026] to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem\u2019 (15,25-26).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these words Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, calls upon all the priests of the Universal Church to support the Holy Land through the instrument that for centuries has allowed us to support the Christians in Jerusalem, Israel and Palestine, Jordan and the neighboring Eastern countries. \u201cThis appeal to the Collection comes in the framework of pursuing that peace of which our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land want to be effective instruments in God\u2019s hands to the benefit of the entire East. The Collection started at the beginning of the Lenten journey towards Easter and will culminate in the coming weeks, during Good Friday or on the occasions deemed to be most favourable in each local context. The Collection remains everywhere the ordinary and indispensable way to promote the life of the Christians in that beloved Land<\/strong>\u201d, says the Cardinal in his letter. We bring to your attention, in particular, the project \u201cJerusalem, the stones of memory\u201d to support the Christians living in Old Jerusalem, a necessary and indispensable mission to prevent the Holy Sites from getting empty and to keep them alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
